”Behind every person, is a village” – Pastor Curt Wolfe
Before we left for the field for the first time, we had many people tell us not to have any expectations of what life would look like overseas because your experience might not meet your expectation. As hard as we try not to, we always have preconceptions based on things we’ve heard or read about. Before we went into full time ministry, we had a vision in our minds of exactly what that was supposed to look like. We had preconceptions about what a missionary’s job was; and if we weren’t meeting every point of our expectations, we were failing. We were met with the lie that if we weren’t living in an unreached country, we weren’t doing the work of the Lord.
However, the Lord revealed this to us for what it is, a lie. The Gospel of Jesus is not for a location, it is for people. It is for ALL people.
If you told us a couple of years ago that we would be moving to Europe, we probably would have laughed. Europe is often thought of as a vacation destination and a place to go for rest and exploration. That’s the way that we viewed it too, up until we traveled there for the first time 2 years ago. The burden that the Holy Spirit placed on our hearts when we landed in Greece was something that we couldn’t ignore. Why would the Lord call us to leave an unreached place to go to a reached place? The thought wrapped our minds. However, after prayer, fasting, and research; we began to understand what an amazing opportunity Europe was for spreading the gospel to all people. Europe is a vessel that brings access to the gospel to people from inaccessible places. People from all over the world are traveling or moving to Europe for many reasons; and when people leave their country, it does not mean they leave their culture or religion. People from countries where the Gospel is inaccessible now have the opportunity to hear the truth of the Gospel in a way that never was possible otherwise.
The Gospel is accessible in Europe, but that does not always mean the gospel is obtainable. Just because Europe gives people access to the path that leads to the Truth of the Gospel does not always mean that it gives direction on how to get there. That’s where we can have an impact. There are many immigrants moving to Europe from places like the Middle East and Asia that are bringing their culture, language and religion with them. Unless we are actively striving to meet these people where they are, they may never hear about Jesus at all. This is the importance of international church. We are able to reach the world from one location. We will be working in an international church called Vienna Christian Center (VCC) which currently houses over 90 nationalities, and has services in 6 different languages! We have heard testimony after testimony about how people from different countries found their way to VCC and were able to attend a service in their home language among people who come from their culture, hear the Gospel message of Jesus, get radically saved, and were then able to bring their faith back to their home countries to share with their communities.
Lost people are lost people regardless of location. There are people who have never heard about Jesus all over the world, even in our own communities. It is our job to plant seeds wherever we are. The Gospel is for all people, all nations, and all souls.
